NJ Maritime Museum Presentation – January 12, 2024

Please join us on Friday, January 12th at 7 pm for our next monthly presentation at Buckalew’s. Our speaker will be Ret Talbot, a science writer and co-author with a new nonfiction book about white sharks.  Ret Talbot is an award-winning independent journalist and writer who covers ocean issues and animals at the intersection of science and sustainability. His most recent book is Chasing Shadows, written with shark biologist Greg Skomal.  At its heart, it is a conservation success story about restoring an apex predator to an ecosystem through the eyes of the scientist who quite unexpectedly found himself in the middle of it all.  Library Journal commented “Skomal and Talbot describe the shark for the splendid creature that it is. Fans of Jaws and Shark Week will love this book, but it’s also a compelling read for anyone interested in oceans, wildlife, conservation, or scientific adventures. An excellent title for readers who’ve ever been at the ocean’s edge and wondered what was out there”.

Mr. Talbot will be bringing copies of his book that include an original illustration of a white shark on the title page by the book’s illustrator and Ret’s wife, Karen Talbot. Karen is a scientific illustrator best known for her work with fishes.

Complimentary hor doerves and happy hour drink prices are available starting at 6 pm, and the talk will begin at 7 pm, as is usual. Reservations are required, and a $10 donation will be collected at the door to offset our expenses. Active members will have until January 5th to reserve a seat for this presentation, after which date non-members may reserve any remaining seats. Please note – THIS PRESENTATION WILL FILL THE ROOM AND THERE WILL BE A WAITING LIST.

Reservations may be made by calling the museum at 609.492.0202 or by sending an e-mail to info@NJMM.org.  If you make a reservation and find you can’t come, please call again to let us know so others can fill your seat. This is a courtesy to those on the waiting list and to Ret.

I hope to see you there.
