Our next presentation will take place at Buckalew’s Bar & Restaurant on Friday, March 20 at 7 pm. Complimentary hor d’oeuvres will be provided at 6 pm until the start of the presentation at 7 pm. Happy Hour drink prices are available at the bar. A donation of $10 per guest to offset expenses will be collected at the door. Our guest speaker will be Gene Peterson. The subject of the presentation is “Finding the Freedom”
Start with the search for the lost tanker “British Freedom” and decades of wreck searching has led to solve many mysteries. Reunite families with their forefather’s history and help them pay tribute to these great heroes that lost their lives at sea insuring our freedom. Hard work and the inspiration of history enabled discovery and closure for many families affected by these great tragedies. Their perilous stories need to be heard so that we as Americans can appreciate their dedication and sacrifices.
Gene Peterson is a long-time friend of the Maritime Museum. As the owner of Atlantic Divers, Gene has led divers to explore shipwrecks all along the east coast of the US and Canada. Gene keeps three display cases at the museum filled with artifacts he has recovered from New Jersey shipwrecks. Gene has retired from active ownership of the dive business but continues to share his experiences through his writing for local newspapers and periodicals and his presentations to groups like our Friday night audience.
