Our next presentation will take place at Buckalew’s Bar & Restaurant on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 pm. Complimentary hor d’oeuvres will be provided at 6 pm until the start of the presentation at 7 pm. Happy Hour drink prices are available at the bar. A donation of $10 per guest to offset expenses will be collected at the door. Our guest speaker will be Nicholas Wood. The subject of the presentation is “Famous Firsts at Twin Lights”.
Nick’s presentation will give you a chance to explore the technological innovations that took place at Twin Lights as well as the unique navigation challenges that made Twin Lights the notable landmark for all sailors approaching the New York Harbor. The site today is a popular heritage tourism destination with a breathtaking view of the New York harbor and skyline.
Nicholas Wood serves as Historian at the Twin Lights Historic Site in Highlands, New Jersey. He works daily to enhance visitor understanding of America’s maritime roots, through an exploration of Lighthouses, Lifesaving, and Wireless Communication. He has worked at cultural institutions on the Jersey Shore for 10 years, including the Tuckerton Seaport and Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
