Please join us on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 7 pm for the next of our monthly presentations at Buckalew’s. The presentation will be “Around the World and in Our Backyard: The Story of the USS Murphy”

USS Murphy (DD-603) is a Benson-class destroyer with a storied history. The Murphy did several years of wartime service before she collided with the SS Bulkoil off the coast of New Jersey in 1943. The forward part of the destroyer sank, but the Navy towed the aft portion home for repairs and the ship remained in the reserve fleet until 1970. The bow portion of the vessel lies 75 miles east of Point Pleasant in 260 feet of water and is a favorite dive of D/V Tenacious’ crew. Join Joe Mazraani and Jennifer Sellitti as they discuss the life, sinking, and rebirth of the USS Murphy and share photos and video of this unique local wreck.

Complimentary hor doerves and happy hour drink prices are available starting at 6 pm, and the talk will begin at 7 pm, as is usual. Reservations are required, and a $10 donation will be collected at the door to offset our expenses. Active members will have until January 13th to reserve a seat for this presentation, after which date non-members may reserve any remaining seats.

Reservations may be made by calling the museum at 609.492.0202 or by sending an e-mail to info@NJMM.org

I hope to see you there. Best wishes for the holidays and a very Happy New Year.
